About J.O.B.S.
The Jewish Organization at the Business School (J.O.B.S.) was founded in January 2009 to better represent the Jewish population in the business school. We noticed that there were many Jewish students scattered throughout student organizations both within and outside McCombs, but there was not a single organization to bring these students together. Uniting and serving these similar, but scattered students became our purpose.
At first our only goal was to see what the population wanted and needed in a new organization. From there, we developed our primary goal of preparing our members for the business world in a non-traditional manner. We want our members to interact with speakers and each other in way that they are unable to do in a classroom setting. Our meetings and speakers are not lectures; we facilitate discussions that our members partake in so they can learn from each other.
Two topics that we focus on specifically are current events and actual business and ethics issues. Current events are important to the unique learning experience at our meetings because the business environment is constantly evolving so our members? knowledge should be expanded beyond the textbook learning in the classroom. We discuss business and ethics issues because they are ideas and thoughts that are best learned experientially and through discussion.
Another goal of J.O.B.S. is to promote diversity among student organizations. We partner up with other organizations to put on events, but most importantly so our members can interact with members of other organizations.
